MANILA – A boxing matchmaker believes that undefeated American boxer Chris Algieri has the tools to beat eight-division boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.
Aside from Algieri’s height advantage, Ron Katz said the New York-based fighter is also equipped with speed and agility.
'I love the matchup. I love the style matchup. I think Chris will use his physical advantages and I think his speed is going to surprise Pacquiao,' Katz said in Fight Hype.
He added that Pacquiao’s age might also play as a big factor in the welterweight bout, scheduled on November 22 (November 23, Manila time) in Macau.
“I think Manny is still a very good fighter, there is no doubt about it, but he's not the same Manny from 3 years ago and I really love the matchup,” said Katz.
The matchmaker also refuted the argument that Algieri is not yet prepared for an opponent of Pacquiao’s caliber.
Katz said the 30-year-old American is at the right stage of his career and can challenge fighters in the elite ranks.
"I mean, there is no higher level. There are two lottery tickets in boxing and that's [Floyd] Mayweather and Pacquiao and he plugged one of 'em,' he said.
'If he is able to do to Pacquiao what he did to [Ruslan] Provodnikov, then forget about it; generations of Algieris will be set financially.'
