MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo rookie Thirdy Ravena freely admits that he has been struggling so far in his UAAP career, as the former juniors MVP has yet to score a single point in three games for the Blue Eagles.

Ravena, the younger brother of Ateneo star Kiefer, usually comes off the bench for defensive purposes. He had one rebound and one assist in Ateneo's 86-75 win against UP on Wednesday, but has yet to get on the scoreboard.

"Kitang-kita naman sa lahat ng mga games ko," Ravena said yesterday after their game. "Three games in, zero score."

"Medyo kinakabahan talaga ako eh," he admits. "I need to find myself, the old me na medyo kumpyansa na mag-laro para gumagana 'yung pag-slash ko, at 'yung mga shots ko pumapasok."

"Hopefully, it happens soon."

Ravena believes he may be overthinking matters during the game, which has resulted to his less-than-stellar performances.

"Masyado ko iniisip 'yung laro ko, at masyado kong iniisip kung ano 'yung sasabihin ng iba," he said. "So ang gagawin ko muna, ish-shut down ko muna 'yung external forces na naghahatak sa akin pababa."

"Iisipin ko lang kung ano 'yung maiko-contribute ko sa team and gagawin ko lang siya," he added.

There are no complaints from the younger Ravena, however, saying he will keep on working to play his primary role as a defensive stopper before thinking about his scoring.

"Yan 'yung reason kung bakit ako kinuha ni Coach Bo (Perasol)," he said, "It's that I am the defender of the team."

Ravena is part of a heralded recruiting class that also includes former San Beda Red Cub Arvin Tolentino. The two have had contrasting careers so far, as Tolentino is already averaging 15 points per game and scored a career-high 20 points against UP.

Ravena said this is not a concern for him, and indeed sees it as an advantage that Tolentino has been playing so well.

"Hindi ko naman siya kalaban na kailangan ko i-worry kung ano 'yung ginagawa niya," he says of Tolentino. "He has something good going for him, and hopefully, makatulong din ako katulad ng kung paano siya natulong sa team."
