LONDON – With five days to go before the 2012 Olympic Games, the Filipino athletes have settled into their temporary homes at the Olympic Village in London.
The Filipino Olympians have been staying in the Olympic Village for almost a week now, and they were visited by officials of the Philippine Embassy over the weekend.
The Filipino athletes and their coaches, as well as other delegates from Philippines, are currently staying at the Samphire Heights building.
The Philippine team occupies two floors of the building, with each room having its own television and wi-fi access.
From their balcony, the Filipino athletes have a view of the Basketball Arena, which will be dismantled after the Games.
According to Philippine Olympics chef-de-mission Manny Lopez, the whole team has adjusted to living in the Athletes' village. Their only problem is the unpredictable London weather.
"Maganda ang accommodation namin dito, very suitable and comfortable," Lopez said. “Ang problema lang namin dito ay ang inclement weather, 'yung paulan-ulan paminsan-minsan."
The Filipino athletes believe they are well-prepared for the competition, since they began training well before the Games.
"They were here three weeks ago. The Philippine Olympic Committee wanted them to be prepared... not only physically, but mentally and psychologically," said Lopez.
The Filipino Olympians will wear suits designed by Rajo Laurel to the opening ceremonies, which is expected to be watched by a worldwide audience this Friday. -- Report by Jomel Gutierrez, ABS-CBN News Europe Bureau
