Ateneo, NU off to good starts in Fr. Martin Cup

MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Ateneo-B Blue Eagles, National University(NU)-B Bulldogs and the Technological Institute of the Philippines(TIP)-A Engineers notched convincing wins to open their campaigns in the 12th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup.

Dan Wong fired 12 points for the Blue Eagles in their 72-54 demolition of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines for their first triumph in the tournament.

Jaymark Carino scored eight points for the Blue Eagles who moved away by 12 points, 42-30, at halftime.

Meanwhile, Cedrick Labing-isa banged in 13 points for the NU-B Bulldogs in their 70-47 win over TIP-B. The Bulldogs took charge right away and were never in trouble after taking a 16-9 lead in the first period.

Chino Medina scored 12 points for TIP-A as they beat the Enderun College Titans, 74-43.

A total of 40 schools joined the tournament, with 25 teams playing in the seniors division and 16 teams in the junior division.
