Dysam is now in stable condition

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is looking at a “love triangle” as a possible motive for the shooting of Letran Knight point guard Franz Dysam and his girlfriend last Saturday at the corner of N. Domingo and Araneta Avenue in San Juan.

Dysam and his girlfriend, Joanne Sordan, were on board a gray Nissan Sentra when they were fired upon by the riding-in-tandem suspects. Dysam was injured, while Sordan was declared dead on arrival at the San Juan Medical Center.

Sordan’s family is clueless as to a possible motive, but police are looking at a love triangle as the reason behind the crime.

Three of Sordan’s past lovers – a former basketball player, a former policeman, and her ex-husband – will be investigated.

A friend of Dysam’s further claimed that the ex-cop once threatened the basketball player.

“Meron na rin kasing nangyari noong ano pa, tinutukan nga daw siya dati noon sa tuhod. Siguro binantaan na,” said Dysam’s friend, adding that the incident happened “one year ago or two years ago.”

Police will also determine if the shooting is business-related after they found out that Sordan is a casino financier.

Letran issues statement

Meanwhile, the Colegio De San Juan De Letran on Sunday said that Dysam is now in stable condition.

“Medical results show that all his vital signs are in good condition. He is scheduled for operation tomorrow to remove four bullets in his body,” the school said in a statement.

Letran administrators did not disclose the hospital where Dysam is staying, but said the player is being guarded by two police officers and the university’s personal security.

The school said Dysam is conscious and has been informed of Sordan’s death.

“Like a gallant knight, Franz protected his girlfriend during the incident that got him six gunshot wounds. While only one was received by his girlfriend, it was fatal. Their three-month old child is safe,” the school said.

The school added that the CCTV footage of the incident is already with the authorities.

Dysam and Sordan were on their way to a victory party in Intramuros following their victory against the Lyceum Pirates in their NCAA Season 89 game.

They were attacked by the suspects at the corner of N. Domingo and Araneta Avenue. Using a .45 caliber gun, the two gunmen fired several times and the driver’s side of the car.

Five empty shells were recovered from the crime scene. --Reports from Carolyn Bonquin, ABS-CBN News; Henry Atuelan and Dennis Datu, DZMM
