MANILA, Philippines – US-based lightweight prospect Mercito Gesta plans to put on another impressive fight one he trades with his American opponent Ty Barnett.
Gesta’s trainer/manager Vince Parra said the Filipino boxer is now equipped with better stamina and confidence going to the main event of ESPN2's Friday Night Fights on August 3.
"His endurance has always been a key thing myself and his father (Anecito Gesta) stressed because there has been times he could have finished guys but didn't push,” Parra said in RingTV.
“Mercito realizes the value of good condition now and it's starting to show.
Aside from the appeal of being featured at the main event, there is another thing that motivates Gesta in beating Barnett.
“Barnett hasn't shown him much respect. I think you'll see a motivated Mercito Gesta. It's not personal but the plan is to destroy this guy… Mercito wants him to trade, if not he'll walk him down, whatever it takes," said Parra.
Barnett will be Gesta's second fight in 2012, after an 8th-round stoppage of Oscar Cuero last April.
