Shooting incident mars Knights’ win

MANILA, Philippines – The Letran Knights extended their winning streak to five games by drubbing the Lyceum Pirates, 61-53, at the 89th NCAA men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan.

Raymond Alamazan came up with a double-double performance of 19 points and 17 rebounds, leading Letran with a 16-2 breakaway in the third.

Rey Nambatac chipped in 14 points, 6 steals, and 5 rebounds as they brought down Lyceum to its third defeat in five starts.

Aziz Mbomiko led the Pirates with 15 points.

The Knights’ victory, however, was marred by a shooting incident involving one of their players.

Franz Dysam and his partner Joan Sordan were shot multiple times by motorcycle-riding suspects at the corner of N. Domingo and Araneta Avenue in San Juan City.

Sordan died while being treated at the San Juan Medical Center, while Dysam is now in stable condition.

The other game saw defending champion San Beda College beating Jose Rizal University, 65-41.

Ola Adeogun registered double-double figures for the Red Lions, 23 points and 16 rebounds, for their fourth consecutive win.
