MANILA - The National University (NU) Bulldogs posted its second straight win at the expense of the University of the Philippines (UP) Maroons, 70-59, during their faceoff at the UAAP men's basketball tournament on Saturday.
Angelo Alolino topscored for NU with 20 points on 8 for 14 field-goal shooting.
UP put up a stiff challenge in the first stanza when Dave Moralde and the rest of the Maroons took turns sniping from the outside for a slim 19-18 lead.
But the Bulldogs instigated a run in the second quarter to gain the upperhand, 31-27, and they maintained their grip on the lead until the end of the half.
Troy Rosario's charity started a 7-0 run for NU, further widening the gap to 46-37. Alfred Aroga's three-point play closed the quarter for a 57-44 advantage for the Bulldogs.
Moralde tried to keep things going for UP in the fourth, but the Maroons could do little against NU's defense. The Bulldogs went free-wheeling and gained a 15-point lead until the Maroons cut it down to 11.
Rosario finished the game with 17 points and 9 rebounds for NU, while Aroga added 16 to go with his 11 caroms.
Moralde led UP with 15 points.
It was NU's second straight win since drubbing University of Sto. Tomas 59-40.
