Alaska and NLEX will try to rebound from a dismal conference when they clash on the opening day of the season-ending PBA Governors' Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

Alaska bowed out of the Commissioner’s Cup with a 4-8 win loss mark, while NLEX ended up having a 2-9 record.

The two squads face off at 7 p.m., right after the 4:15 p.m. game between Phoenix and Kia, formerly Mahindra.

With veterans JR QuiƱahan and Alex Mallari as well as American reinforcement Aaron Fuller in the fold, Yeng Guiao’s NLEX appears ready to turn a page in a season that has seen the Road Warriors win only 4 out of 22 games.

Alaska will need LaDontae Henton to impress in his debut given that some key members of the Aces, including Calvin Abueva and Vic Manuel, are nursing minor injuries.

In the curtain-raiser, Phoenix brings back Eugene Phelps hoping to qualify for the quarterfinals again and possibly go beyond.

Meanwhile, Kia will be reinforced by Markeith Cummings.

Cummings, formerly of GlobalPort, replaced former Louisville player Chane Behanan, who was measured over 1-inch higher than the 6’5” height limit imposed on imports this conference.

Cummings averaged 28.7 points and 10 rebounds during his stay with the Batang Pier.
