MANILA – Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) leaned on a go-ahead triple by Cameroonian Guy Mbida as it edged Jose Rizal University (JRU), 84-80, in overtime at the 90th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City on Friday.

With the win, the Pirates now occupy fifth spot with a 3-2 record.

Down by a point, 80-79, Mbida launched a dagger three with 16 second to go and this knocked the fight out of the Bombers.

Prior to Mbida’s triple, JRU was riding on a run that wiped out a 13-point deficit and forced overtime via a 75-all deadlock.

But Mbida's shooting sent the Kalentong-based dribblers crashing, depriving them of a share of No. 5 with the Pirates. They are now sixth with a 2-3 slate.
