MANILA, Philippines – Newly crowned UFC middleweight king Chris Weidman said he has granted Anderson Silva a rematch because he thinks the future hall of famer deserves another shot at the title.
“I’m going to give it to him but because he’s going to deserve it,” Weidman told SI.com’s Melissa Segura.
UFC announced that the second installment of Weidman vs Silva will take place at the main event of UFC 168 on December 28.
Weidman also said the second fight will allow him to prove that his stoppage victory over Silva was no fluke.
Weidman finished a showboating Silva on the ground after decking the Brazilian superstar with a left hook to the chin.
“I’m excited to go out there and prove that what I did is going to happen again,” he said. “I’m the better fighter and I’m excited to look even better this next fight.”
