MANILA, Philippines – Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson wants Chael Sonnen to keep his promise to leave the UFC if he loses to rival Anderson Silva of Brazil.
“I think Chael should keep his word and leave the UFC because that’s what he said he was gonna do if he lost,” Jackson said, as quoted by Bloody Elbow.
Last year, Sonnen called out Silva and challenged him to a rematch, but raised the stakes by saying, “I beat you, you leave the division. You beat me, I will leave the UFC forever.”
Sonnen eventually withdrew that offer, and Silva knocked him out in their rematch at UFC 148 to retain the middleweight championship.
“He lost horribly. Bad,” Jackson said. “Chael sucks. He should go somewhere, where people like his interviews, the way he talks sh*t on everybody.”
“I can’t stand that boy,” he added.
Sonnen and Silva engaged in verbal warfare leading up to their fight, with Sonnen insulting Silva’s hometown of Brazil as well as his friends and family. Silva, in turn, promised to give Sonnen a complete beating, saying he will beat the American’s limbs and teeth.
But the two combatants buried the hatchet after the fight, with Silva even inviting Sonnen over for a barbercue at his house.
