ONE FC brings in global MMA stars to PH

MANILA, Philippines – ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) is holding one of its biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) events in Manila to showcase a different brand of MMA to Filipino fight fans.

The Singapore-based MMA is holding ONE FC: Pride of the Nation, which will feature MMA superstars Andrei Arlovski, Jens Pulver, Shinya Aoki and the Philippines’ Eduard Folayang.

The fights will take place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on August 31.

“Manila is the fight capital of Asia and I want to bring the best fighters to the awesome fight-fans of this great city,” said ONE FC chief executive officer Victor Cui during a press conference on Wednesday.

The event was organized in partnership with the Philippines’ Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC).

The biggest star of the card is 6-foot-4 Arlovski, who used to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Affliction.

Arlovski will be battle it out with fellow giant Soa “The Hulk” Palelei of Australia.

“I appreciate ONE FC for the chance to rebuild my MMA career. I’m very excited about August 31st and I’m gonna do my best,” said the Belarusian.

Representing the host country is Folayang, branded as the Manny Pacquiao of Philippine MMA, who will go up against a still-unnamed opponent.

Folayang said he is ready to bang and make his country proud.

“This is another opportunity to showcase the talents of Filipino people. We have in boxing Manny Pacquiao, and now we have MMA,” said the 27-year-old wushu artist.

Other fights to be featured are Bibiano “The Flash” Fernades versus Gustavo Falciroli and Eric “The Natural” Kelly versus Pulver.

The August 31 event will also mark the ONE FC debut of Japanese MMA superstar Shinya Aoki.

“I'm very thankful fighting for the Filipino fans and I promise a very good show for you guys,” said Aoki.

URCC’s Alvin Aguilar said their partnership with ONE FC is a step toward their plan to showcase Filipino talents worldwide.

“Victor and I have a vision to make MMA as big as possible... with this partnership we'd see a start of many great things to come,” said Aguilar.

Cui said ONE FC will be coming out with the complete 10-fight lineup in the next few days.
