MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles will clash with the Trinity University of Asia Stallions in the opening day of the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament this Saturday, July 21, at the St. Placid Gym in San Beda.
Four games will be held in the opening day, with Ateneo, last year’s semifinalist, taking on Trinity at 1:30 p.m. in one of the two senior division game.
The Far Eastern University Tamaraws will face the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) in the 12 noon match-up.
In the junior’s division, defending champion Xavier School clashes with St. Joseph College at 3 p.m., while Trinity battles AUF in the curtain raiser at 9 a.m.
A total of 34 schools will participate in the Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup, with defending champion San Beda Red Lions leading the field of 16 varsity squads in the senior division, while 18 teams are now registered in the juniors division.
The cagefest is a tournament which caters mainly to the participating schools’ “Team B,” and most of the entries come from UAAP and NCAA member schools.
The competition is usually held during the ongoing collegiate season and offers a chance for varsity cagers who are lined up in their alam mater’s farm team to showcase their talents.
The participating teams are: (Group A) – AUF, Emilio Aguinaldo College-Manila, Far Eastern University (FEU), Mapua Institute of Technology, National University, San Beda, San Sebastian-A, Technological Institute of the Philippines.
In Group B are: Ateneo, Arellano University, Informatics, Jose Rizal University (JRU), San Sebastian-B, Trinity, University of the East (UE) and University of Perpetual Help Dalta.
In the juniors division, the teams are: Letran, Hope Christian High School, San Beda, FEU-FERN, University of Santo Tomas, Chiang Kai Shek Teams A and B, UE, EAC-ICA-Cavite, San Sebastian College, Adamson, Letran, St. Joseph-Bulacan, JRU, and Trinity.
