CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Determined to win, Team Marawi City joined Fiesta Football Cup, a local football competition in Barangay Carmen in this city over the weekend.
Since the onset of the Marawi siege, members of the team have been displaced in various areas in Northern Mindanao.
Recalling the day when the Maute group attacked the city, coach Bingay Paran said he was trapped for two days at the Mindanao State University campus before he was rescued by authorities.
Despite the lack of practice, the team pushed through with the competition.
While they failed to grab a spot at the finals, Paran said showing the nation that life goes on despite the crisis is rewarding enough.
Team Marawi City also plans to teach football to children as soon as city begins to rehabilitate.
