Mercito Gesta, a former world title challenger who hails from Cebu, racked up his third victory in a row by knocking out Mexico's Martin Honorio in their lightweight bout on Saturday in California (Sunday in Manila).
Gesta knocked down Honorio in the fourth round, according to a Boxing Scene report, then stopped the veteran for good with a 1-2 punch combination in eighth round.
Referee Thomas Taylor stopped the bout 18 seconds into round eight after Gesta unleashed his combination.
Gesta improved his record to 31 wins with one loss and two draws. It was his third straight win after settling for a split draw against Carlos Molina back in April 2015.
Meanwhile, the veteran Honorio lost for the 11th time in his career against 33 wins and one draw.
