MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American fighter Ana Julaton is set to return to the cage on August 29 when she faces a real test against Russian kickboxer Irina Mazepa.
The former world boxing champion made a successful mixed martial arts (MMA) debut when she stopped Aya Saber in three rounds at ONE FC: Rise of Heroes last May.
“The Hurricane” will now have a tough assignment in Mazepa, a six-time world champion in wushu and a K-1 world champion, whom she will battle in ONE FC: Reign of Champions this August in Dubai.
Julaton is the first Filipina boxer to win the women’s WBO super bantamweight and IBA super bantamweight world titles.
She is also seriously pushing to become a world champion in MMA.
“I wanna see myself to the fullest, I wanna see if I can be MMA champion and try to be a boxing champion,” said the Kenpo Karate expert in a previous interview on ABC.
ONE FC: Reign of Champions will also feature the lightweight title clash between reigning champion Shinya Aoki and Persian grappler Kamal Shalorus and the welterweight championship between title holder Nobutatsu Suzuki and former Bellator superstar Ben Askren.
