MANILA, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas will meeting a familiar face when it tackles Jordan on Tuesday at the FIBA Asia Cup in Wuhan, China.

Rajko Toroman, the former Philippine national team coach, will be calling the shots for Jordan at the Wuhan Sports Center.

The Serbian coach used to mentor the earlier batch of Gilas, which included JV Casio, Mark Barroca and Chris Tiu.

Current Gilas coach Chot Reyes said he is looking forward to coaching against Toroman.
“It’s always a joy to compete against the best coaches. I look forward to facing him,” said Reyes.

Gilas remained undefeated after two successful starts against Chinese Taipei and Singapore. But Reye believes that Jordan will be their real test.

“[Jordan] is our first real test since we haven’t really played anybody yet,” he told Ronnie Nathanielsz in a report on Philboxing.

For Toroman, coaching Jordan has been a challenge. But like in his previous assignments, he plans to take the team past their competitors.
“It is a big challenge for me after Iran and Philippines to have the opportunity to coach of one of the best teams in Asia,” the Serbian said in the FIBA Asia Cup website.

“I’ll try to do the same as what I did with those two teams, that is taking Jordan forward,” he added.

Jordan lost its opening assignment against Chinese Taipei, but bounced back against Singapore.
