MANILA, Philippines - The eight schools of the UAAP kicked off the league's 75th season with fireworks-laden opening ceremonies at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City, Saturday.
Bands from the different schools opened the ceremonies, and followed by performances from the schools' cheerdance squads.
But it was National University alumnus and former President Fidel V. Ramos who energized the UAAP crowd with a re-enacment of his famous 'jump' after the successful People Power Revolution in 1986.
Ramos even got NU President Teddy Ocampo to do the 'jump' with him, to the delight of the collegiate crowd.
UAAP President Nilo Ocampo later challenged the UAAP athletes, saying "all eyes are upon you" as the UAAP Season 75 gives them a chance to be "counted among the legends" of the league.
The opening ceremonies were followed by the first game of the men's basketball tournament, pitting the hosts NU Bulldogs against the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors.
