MANILA, Philippines – World Boxing Council (WBC) president Jose Sulaiman believes Mexico’s Jorge Arce will only be overpowered by Nonito Donaire Jr. if their match pushes through in October.

Sulaiman told Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz that although Arce is the No.1 ranked WBO super bantamweight, he is old and slow compared to the “Filipino Flash.”

“Arce has absolutely no chance to beat Donaire,” said the WBC official.

Sulaiman conceded that his fellow Mexican is a workhorse because he “throws punches every fraction of a second when he is allowed to do so.”

But against the Filipino Flash fighting style, Arce “will be an easy target for Donaire,” he said.

Donaire has recently unified the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight titles by hammering Jeffrey Mathebula in 12 rounds.

His promoter, Top Rank’s Bob Arum, is planning to pit Donaire for an October fight against future hall-of-famer Arce.
