MANILA, Philippines – PBA expansion team Blackwater Sports is hoping to land young players in the Expansion Draft on July 18, according to team manager Johnson Martines.
"Ang hinahanap namin ay 'yung mga bata," Martines told PBA.ph. "Maybe, we'll pick two or three veterans to guide the team." [http://pba.inquirer.net/47949/young-talents-high-on-blackwaters-wish-list]
Blackwater might also target the players they used to have in the PBA D-League who were left unprotected by their mother teams. They also hope to get promising players in the rookie draft later in the year.
"Meron pa rin namang Rookie Draft," said Martines. "So doon kami pipili ng players which we will build up on. Hopefully, in two years at least, gagaling na 'yang mga 'yan."
What's definite is that Blackwater will retain the services of their coaching staff in the D-League, saying they are happy with the work done by head coach Leo Isaac.
"He's been with us ever since," Martines said of Isaac. "Maganda 'yung sistema niya at 'yun ang mahalaga sa amin."
Among the notable players who are available in the expansion pool is former MVP Danny Ildefonso, who was left unprotected by the Meralco Bolts.
