MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine sepak takraw team won a gold medal in the recently concluded 27th King’s Cup World Championships in Thailand.
The Filipinos clinched the gold medal in the men’s doubles, besting 23 other teams that joined the competition.
Team captain Jayson Huerte said they plan to bring more honor to the country when they compete in upcoming foreign tournaments.
The Filipino squad underwent thorough preparation and rigid training for the King’s Cup.
They said they are glad their hard work paid off.
The team hopes the victory will hope popularize sepak takraw in the Philippines.
The sepak takraw players are also looking forward to getting corporate sponsorship just like other sports. – With a report from TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News
