Memory gold medalist eyes Aussie crown

MANILA, Philippines -- After a fruitful stint in the recent Thailand International Open Memory Championships, Mary Sharmaine Deldio-Dianquinay is setting her sights at the 2012 Australian International Open Memory Championship in Melbourne in November.

The 18-year-old Deldio-Dianquinay topped the women’s division of the tournament which attracted 260 mental athletes early this month.

She is now making her preparations for the memory competition in Australia.

“I hope to do well in Melbourne,” said Dianquinay.
The Philippine memory team won a total of 10 gold medals in the 5th Thailand International Open Memory Championships held at the Kasetsart University in Bangkok.

Other members of the team are Filipino Grandmaster of Memory (GM) Mark Anthony Castaneda, Roberto Racasa, Ydda Graceille Mae Habab, Jamyla Lambunao, Anne Bernadette Bonita, Cristine “Eon” Barao, Ian Roi Spencer Betiong, Blessie Mae Ayalde and Princess Grace Mendoza.

Former PBA star Robert Jaworski paid them tribute by hosting a dinner for the Memory players on Thursday night. -- By Marlon Bernardino
