MANILA, Philippines – Wangs Basketball used a strong start and an even stronger finish to rout AMA Online Education, 110-85, for their second straight victory in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Tuesday at the Ynares Spots Arena.
Robbie Herndon anchored Wangs with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists, but it was a complete team effort as all but one of the Couriers contributed a field goal in the comfortable victory.
John Ambulodto tallied 12 markers and eight boards, Michael Juico got 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists, and John Montemayor had 12 markers and three boards to help Wangs notch back-to-back victories and improve to 5-3.
"Nag-work hard lang 'yung mga players sa defense, at 'yun ang nagadala ng panalo sa amin," said Wangs coach Pablo Lucas.
The Couriers had a superb start, as they jumped out to a 30-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
AMA fought back in the second half and cut the lead to six points, 52-46, with still 7:46 to play in the third quarter. However, it proved to be their last stand as Wangs got its bearings back and broke the game open once more.
The Couriers made it a 29-point game, 98-69, after a pair of triples from Herndon with 3:47 to go.
The defeat wasted a 35-point effort from Renzo Subido, who also had eight assists and two rebounds for AMA.
The Titans dropped to 1-6 in the tournament.
