MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Filipino basketball fans will have an opportunity to meet Miami Heat’s biggest attraction as LeBron James heads to Manila this month.
Nike Philippines announced that it will host the two-time NBA champion for the first time in the Philippines on July 23.
The 6'8" forward is one of the well-known figures in the NBA today.
James, one of Nike's biggest endorsers since 2003, was selected with the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Cavaliers, which he led to its first NBA Finals appearance in 2007.
In 2010, he left Cleveland for Miami, where he teamed up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to make up the Heat’s “Big 3”.
James won his first championship in 2012 when Miami defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder. He led the Heat to a second straight title a year later, this time against the San Antonio spurs.
Aside from being a two-time NBA champion, "King James" is a four-time NBA Most Valuable Player, a two-time NBA Finals MVP, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, an NBA scoring champion, and the NBA Rookie of the Year.
Meanwhile, Nike is inviting the Filipino fans to join their “Leave a Message” campaign which was launched shortly after James clinched his second championship last month.
The campaign had personalities like Spike Lee, Warren Buffet, Dr. Dre, Coach K, Phil Knight, Drake, Bill Russell and kids from The LeBron James Family Foundation leaving congratulatory messages for James on his answering machine.
Filipino fans will have a special opportunity to leave personal messages for the NBA player through social media, radio and retail activation starting July 12.
Tickets will be given for free starting July 17 at 12 noon at the Nike Park in Bonifacio Global City. Only two tickets will be given per person.
