MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American Brandon Vera wants to lay out “The Truth” on his opponent, mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Shogun Rua, when they fight in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on FOX this August.

"I've been wanting to fight 'Shogun' since he's been kicking people in the face in PRIDE," Vera said in MMA Fighting.

"His standup is amazing. He's from Chute Boxe, he's from the old school. If 'Shogun' wants to stand there and bang with me, I'll love him even more.”

Vera, who was once considered a rising star in UFC, was beset by a string of losses in the past years.

He said that fighting a legend like Rua would be a golden opportunity for him to show his fans that he’s still in the game.

"This is a golden ticket," said Vera. "I need this, this could almost become the defining moment of my career, through all the good, the bad and the ugly. If I do this the way I'm supposed to, the way I can, the world will start following,” said the 6-foot-2 Muay Thai expert.

“I'm not ready to let my story come to an end. I'm not ready to retire, I'm not ready to hang up the gloves."
