Lyceum rips Mapua

MANILA, Philippines – Lyceum of the Philippines weathered Mapua Institute of Technology and carved out a 78-74 victory in the 88th NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Thursday.

Shane Ko scored 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds to help the Pirates snap the Cardinals’ 2-game win streak, according to Inbound Pass.

Rich Guevarra provided able backing with 14 points and 5 rebounds.

Chris Cayabyab’s jumper broke the deadlock to push Lyceum ahead, 73-71.

After Andrew Estrella sank his free throw for Mapua, Jhygruz Laude connected both of his charities to keep the Pirates afloat, 75-72.

Mike Parala free throws brought the Cardinals within striking distance, 75-74.

Cayabyab fished a foul off Josan Nimes and pushed lyceum further ahead, 77-74, with 17.5 seconds remaining.

Kenneth Ighalo went for a potential game tying three-pointer but was blocked by Cayabyab.

Cayabyab later iced the game on the stripes to secure Lyceum’s first win in 4 attempts.
