LOS ANGELES – For the past week, the boxing world has credited Michael Farenas as rapper 50 Cent’s party crasher, after he knocked out the latter's fighter Mark Davis at an ESPN televised fight celebrating 50 Cent’s birthday.
The victory made Farenas the Number 1 title contender for the IBF junior lightweight championship.
This gives him a shot at the winner of the Argenis Mendez-Rances Barthelemy IBF Junior Lightweight title clash that will take place in Florida.
Farenas said he was happy about the big win and is hoping to be able to get the world title.
The younger Davis was heavily favored to win, but “Hammer Fists” dominated the fight by stopping the American in the eighth round.
It was Davis’ first career loss as the 30-year-old from Sorsogon improved his record to 38 wins, 4 losses, 4 draws, and a no decision.
He explained that right from the opening bell, he knew he could take Davis’ punches and beat him with experience.
The Gerry Penalosa protege visited to the Wild Card Gym on Wednesday, meeting his co-trainer Marvin Samodio as well as another Filipino contender, Drian Francisco.
Farenas will return to the Philippines on Thursday.
While no date has been set for his title fight, he will begin preparing for his title shot after a well-earned rest.
