MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has set former light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson for a UFC 153 bout against Brazilian phenomenon Glover Teixeira in October.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the former UFC and PRIDE champion Jackson is expected to have a tough time against Teixeira, who is riding on an unbeaten streak since 2006.
Jackson, who has been beset by injuries, only won two out of his last five fights.
Adding to Jackson’s woes is that the fight will be staged in Teixeira’s native country, Brazil.
Upon hearing the news, Teixeira has already hatched out possible strategies he could implement against Rampage.
“I’m going out with him in the standup. I have to be smart and not stand still, move, fight the right fight. But, I’ll work on the strategy with my coaches,” he said in Sherdog.
Teixeira added that he also considers forcing Jackson to take their fight to the ground.
“Look, it’s MMA (mixed martial arts). I’m prepared for everything. The ground will be part of the game, yes, but I have to train everything for him, even takedown defense.”
