MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) National University (NU) quashed University of Sto. Tomas’ comeback in the final period to grind out a 71-67 win on Wednesday’s UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball at the Araneta Coliseum.
Bobby Parks atoned for his 11-point performance against UE last Saturday by tallying 20 points, six assists and two blocks to lead the Bulldogs to its second win in three games.
NU took advantage of the slow starting Growling Tigers, especially after Jeric Teng injured his shoulder during a contact with Jeoffrey Javillonar in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs used a 14-7 surge in the third to widen the scoring gap.
Still UST threatened to take over the game when Kevin Ferrer connected from three-point country to bring the Tigers within three, 67-70, 0.8 seconds remaining in the game.
The Bulldogs, however, managed to hold on the lead as Robin Roño pegged the final scores on the free throw line.
It was UST’s first defeat against two wins, sharing a 2-1 card with NU, Adamson University and De La Salle University.
