MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is preparing for another record crowd as the Governors’ Cup title series between Grand Slam-seeking San Mig Coffee and “never-say-die” Rain or Shine goes down to the wire.
Game 5 between the Coffee Mixers and the Elasto Painters is set to take place at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday and the league reported a huge demand for tickets.
“Thanks to the intensity and passion of the protagonists, this series has really generated so much support from the fans. But we have to admit that we cannot accommodate all of them for today’s Game 5,” PBA commissioner Chito Salud said in the league’s official website after 18,168 spectators filled the Big Dome for last Monday's Game 4.
“As much as we want to fill the Araneta Coliseum, we are also trying to avoid accidents. Safety and security of the fans is always foremost in my mind,” Salud added.
For fans who can't make it inside the Areneta Coliseum, the league will be setting up large TV screens around the Cubao venue. Water stations will also be set up around the coliseum for the fans.
Security will also be tightened in anticipation for the huge crowd around the Big Dome, the league said.
Salud said they are joining hands with Quezon City Police Station 7 to prevent ticket scalping and ticket snatching at the venue.
“We are doing all these for the fans. We want this all important game to reach as many of our fans as possible. This is our small way of thanking the fans for being with us through the years,” Salud said.
