MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxer Mercito Gesta reported that his training is going well as he continues to prepare for his July 18 showdown against Mexican boxer Luis Arceo in San Francisco.
Gesta is fighting for the second time since he suffered his first loss at the hands of champion Miguel Vazquez in December 2012. He had knocked out veteran Edgar Riovalle in his comeback fight last April.
“Mabuti naman ang training,” said Gesta in a PhilBoxing interview. “We are on the right track.”
PhilBoxing reported that Gesta trained even during the Fourth of July weekend, sparring at the House of Boxing Gym in San Diego. He has also sparred at the famous Wild Card Gym and done work in other boxing gyms in San Diego.
“Dire-diretso lang hanggang meron pang ilang mga araw bago sa laban,” said the 26-year-old Gesta.
The one-time world title challenger is seeking his 28th win on July 18 against one loss and one draw. Meanwhile, his opponent has a record of 28 wins with 12 losses and four draws.
