MANILA, Philippines – Kerby Raymundo towed Barangay Ginebra past Meralco, 89-76, at the start of the PBA Governors Cup semifinals at the Ynares Sports Center on Friday.
The 6’6” slotman, who was acquired by the Kings in an off-season trade with B-Meg, finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds in 31 minutes.
“Kerby is getting comfortable with our system,” said Ginebra coach Tanquingcen in PBA.ph. “But he’s still a work in progress.”
Also making his presence felt was Eric Menk, who added 6 points, in only his second game in the Governors’ Cup.
Menk is slowly making progress since recuperating from an injury.
“It felt very good, and I’m grateful to Coach for giving me a chance to play and contribute, especially in the playoffs,” said Menk.
Import Cedric Bozeman added 13 with 16 boards, while rookie Allein Maliksi tallied 12 points.
“A good start, that’s the first thing in our minds in the semis,” said Tanquingcen. “It’s crucial that we get as many wins as we could.”
The Kings, who will pay tribute to former playing-coach Robert Jaworski when his jersey No. 7 is retired Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, improved to 6-4.
The victory placed Ginebra just a win away from No. 2 ranked B-Meg.
