MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Smart Gilas-Pilipinas trounced Malaysia, 85-50, on Friday in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Cup to arrange a showdown with Thailand.
Marcus Douthit led Gilas to its 3rd straight win with a double-double performance, 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Garvo Lanete was the game’s top scorer with 14 points on 6-of-9 field goal shooting.
The Filipinos will square off with Thailand in the titular showdown on Saturday.
Thailand is coming off a 46-66 beating from Indonesia.
But the host country still managed to qualify for the final game by virtue of its 2-1 record, which is second only to the Philippines.
The competition serves as a qualifying tournament for the 4th FIBA Asia Cup set in Tokyo, Japan in September.
