Donaire appears in ESPN Nacion
Says he respects Pacquiao so much
LOS ANGELES, California -- Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. made a guest appearance on ESPN Nacion, the sports network's Spanish language channel to promote his upcoming fight against South African Jeffrey Mathebula.
The General Santos native Donaire opened his segment by singing a Spanish song and attempted to speak Spanish on the show.
During the 10 minute in-studio interview, Donaire spoke about his career, his opinion on performance enhancing drugs, and even gave his thoughts on being compared to Manny Pacquiao.
“I have a lot of respect for Manny... we're not like Mexican fighters...we need to stick together and just be proud of each other,” he said.
Donaire will fight Mathebula in a unification title bout this weekend.
Donaire owns the World Boxing Organization super bantamweight crown, while Mathebula holds the International Boxing Federation strap.
The Donaire-Mathebula card will be aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2 on Sunday, starting 10 a.m.
