MANILA – Defending champion San Beda clobbered Mapua with successive three-pointers to fashion out a lopsided 89-55 win in the 90th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City on Friday.
The four-peat champions are now tied with San Sebastian Stags in first place.
A week after making just three triples in a 57-49 win over Jose Rizal, the Lions buried a season-high 14 booming triples, including seven from Baser Amer to run away with their second win in a row.
"We were a little embarrassed with our three-point shooting the last game so we made a conscious effort to take some extra attempts from there," said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
Amer set the tone early for San Beda as he went an immaculate six-of-six from downtown in the first half and it went cruise control from there after sitting out its starters and sending in the shock troopers.
The Cardinals fell to their second straight defeat.
