MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines had no trouble in manhandling Estonia, 5-1, on Day 2 of the 2012 World Pool Team Championships at the Tongzhou Luhe High School in Beijing, China on Tuesday.
The Philippine team, composed of the great Efren "Bata" Reyes, Francisco "Django" Bustamante, Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo and Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit, advanced to the knockout stage of the $300,000 event.
The star-studded squad easily defeated Estonia’s Erki Erm, Joonas Saska, Mark Magi and Anna Grintosuk to hike it total number of points to 6.
The Philippine quartet now tops Group A, followed by Indonesia (3 points), Croatia (3 points), and Estonia (0 point) in the tournament that offers $80,000 to the winning team.
"Today is last day of group stage but Philippines will go through. They already have 6 points. Tomorrow (Wednesday) starts the real action," said billiard commentator Ted Lerner, publicist of the World Pool-Billiards Association.
The format call winner gets 3 points, loser gets none. A tie gives the winner 1 point.
The top 2 teams in each group will advance to the Final 16. Also advancing are the four third-place teams. -- By Marlon Bernardino
