MANILA, Philippines – The San Mig Coffee Mixers and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters lead the race to land the top pick in the talented 2013 PBA Rookie Draft to be held in November.
San Mig holds the rights to the first-round pick of the GlobalPort Batang Pier, while Rain or Shine holds the rights to the first-round pick of the Barako Bull Energy Cola, according to Snow Badua of PBA.ph.
GlobalPort and Barako Bull were two of the cellar-dwellers in the PBA Philippine Cup and Commissioner’s Cup, causing them to climb up in the draft boards.
Crowd favorites Barangay Ginebra may wind up with the third pick, which originally belongs to the Air21 Express.
The 2013 PBA Rookie Draft is highly anticipated as former Ateneo big man Greg Slaughter, San Sebastian center Ian Sangalang and Letran center Raymond Almazan are expected to enter.
Making the draft more interesting is the potential entry of National University star and two-time UAAP MVP Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
Among those who are contemplating entering the draft are Justin Chua, Alex Nuyles and Mark Bringas.
The PBA has started to accept application for the 2013 Draft, which will take place on November 3.
