MANILA, Philippines – There’s a possibility that LA Lakers’ Dwight Howard could be heading to the Philippines for the NBA Global Games in October.
That’s if Houston could sign the 6-foot-11 center, who met with the Rockets management after free agency opened on Monday.
The Rockets are scheduled to play the Indiana Pacers at the NBA Global Games Philippines on October 10.
"If he’s with the Rockets at the time of the Global Games, and he's healthy, he’ll come here,” said NBA Philippines’ country manager Carlo Singson during the launch of the 100-day countdown for the NBA Global Games.
“Both teams will come in full force for the preseason,” he stressed.
Singson also said that there’s a possibility that NBA legend Larry Bird will be joining the Pacers squad when they fly to the Philippines for the pre-season game.
Bird, known for his playing years with the Boston Celtics, has rejoined Indiana as its president for basketball operations.
“The Pacers management are all excited going here… I don’t see how he (Bird) wouldn’t be,” said Singson.
The NBA Global Games will see NBA teams play in eight cities in six countries this October. The schedule will also feature the Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards.
The games will be played in the Philippines, Spain, England, Turkey, Beijing and Shanghai in China and Taipei in Taiwan.
