MANILA, Philippines – The Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters want to prove that they are "for real" when they take on the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters tonight in the closing match of the PBA Governors Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
"This is an opportune time to prove that Rain or Shine is for real," E-Painters coach Yeng Guiao told PBA.ph.
"We are ready to take on this challenge and we will offer no excuses," he added.
The Elasto Painters have a league-leading 7-1 record and are coming off an impressive 103-82 victory over defending champions Petron Blaze last week. Their lone loss came at the hands of the Powerade Tigers, 98-104, in June 8.
The Tropang Texters are two games behind Rain or Shine in the standings with a 5-3 slate, yet remain dangerous especially as they have now gotten their rhythm back after a slow start to the conference.
The Texters have now won four straight games, and head coach Chot Reyes is eager to see how his squad responds against the top team in the Governors Cup.
"(Rain or Shine is) the best team with the best improt, coming off a long rest. We need to figure out how to stop them," Reyes said.
"They're a very confident team right now, and with good reason," he added.
Rain or Shine is already guaranteed to finish in first place in the team standings after the elimination round, but Guiao is more concerned with making it to the Finals of the Governors Cup.
"To win will solidify our hold on first place and gets us closer to a first Finals appearance for the franchise," he said.
