PBA: San Miguel outlasts TNT, now one win away from clinching title

Alex Cabagnot scored 12 of his 28 points in the 4th quarter, and San Miguel Beer came back from 15 points down to outlast TNT in a 111-102 victory in Game 5 of the PBA Commissioner's Cup finals at Araneta Coliseum on Friday.

Before securing the win, however, the Beermen needed to avert a near-collapse of their own late.

Down by 12 points, TNT stormed back, scoring 7 straight to come within 107-102 with 80 seconds left in the game. 

But Jayson Castro missed a contested 3-pointer and Arwind Santos made a basket in the ensuing play for San Miguel to ensure victory for the Beermen and a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

San Miguel can clinch the title in Game 6 on Sunday to be played also at the Big Dome.

Santos finished with 27 points, 20 coming in the 2nd half, to go with 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. 

Charles Rhodes (20 points, 14 rebounds) and Chris Ross (10 points, 11 assists and 5 steals) registered double-doubles on a night that saw reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo hampered by foul trouble.

A late push by TNT in the 2nd quarter, behind long-range makes by Ranidel de Ocampo and Jayson Castro, put the KaTropa ahead 61-46 at halftime.

But San Miguel fought back in the 3rd, outscoring TNT 36-18 to go ahead 82-79 heading into the 4th.

De Ocampo led TNT with 19 points, all of them scored in the 1st half, while Jayson Castro contributed 12 points and 12 assists, but was just 4 of 13 from the field.
