MANILA, Philippines – GlobalPort head coach Pido Jarencio is hopeful that his team will get the top pick in the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft, which promises to feature a talented crop of rookies.

"I'm hoping na makuha namin 'yung number pick, at makakuha kami ng players that can help the team," said Jarencio, as quoted by PBA.ph.

"Ang magiging pick namin, 'yung sa tingin namin ay best player in the Draft that can help our team," he added.

According to the PBA website, the Batang Pier have a two-thirds chance of landing the top pick, with the Meralco Bolts having the other third.

Meralco's pick, however, belongs to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters because of the Sol Mercado trade in 2011.

GlobalPort has only won two games in the past two conferences.

The Batang Pier drafted four rookies in the 2013 draft, but traded away three of them, with only Terrence Romeo still with the team at the end of the season.

In contrast, the Elasto Painters have been getting solid if not spectacular production from rookies Raymond Almazan, Alex Nuyles and Jeric Teng.

Among the players expected to enter the draft are PBA D-League Most Valuable Player Kevin Alas, San Beda standout Garvo Lanete, former San Sebastian swingman Ronald Pascual, and Jericho Cruz, who decided to forego his final year in Adamson to enter the draft.

GlobalPort's fate will be known Tuesday during the halftime of Game 1 of the PBA Governors Cup finals between Rain or Shine and the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers.

The rookie draft will be held on August 24.
