MANILA, Philippines – Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov credits eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao for his 2nd-round knockout victory over California's Jose Reynoso in ESPN’s Friday Night Fight.
Provodnikov sparred with Pacquiao during the latter’s training camp in Baguio City and Los Angeles while the Filipino was preparing for Timothy Bradley.
He said the things he learned from the sparring session with Pacquiao beacame handy against Reynoso.
“I was in training camp with Manny for two months and I had to continue my training camp. This is the payoff. I am very glad. This is just the beginning for me," said Provodnikov in Philboxing.
He said that among the thing he learned from Pacquiao is how to adjust against fast moving boxers.
Provodnikov said his footwork improved a lot through Pacquiao’s help.
"It was all an outcome of the work with Manny because Manny moved a lot. At first I could not catch to him but then I had to improve my footwork and try to catch up to him," said Provodnikov.
Provodnikov is one of the two Russian sparring mates who trained with Pacquiao for the Bradley fight.
The other sparring partner, Ruslan Nogayev, suffered a broken nose while engaging with Pacquiao.
