MANILA, Philippines – Philippine basketball legend and former Senator Robert Jaworski wished Pinoy Olympians the best of luck as they make their final preparations for the 2012 London Olympics.
“I tell you, the greatest honor for any athlete is representing their country in international competitions,” said the former Ginebra stalwart, whose jersey number is going to be retired on July 8.
Jaworski advised the Olympians to give it their best shot no matter what the odds are.
“You are there as a Filipino, you’ve gotta believe in yourself and believe that you will make the best representation given the situation you have,” he said.
The first batch of the Philippine representatives to the 2012 edition of the Games already arrived in London on Friday.
They are swimmers Jasmine Alkhaldi and Jessie Lacuna and shooter Brian Rosario.
Other Filipinos competing in London are light flyweight boxer Mark Anthony Barriga, long jump athlete Marestella Torres, steeplechaser Rene Herrera, archers Rachel Anne Cabral and Mark Javier, judoka Tomohiko Hoshina, and BMX rider Daniel Caluag.
