MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Volcanoes yielded to Kenya during their 2013 Rugby World Cup 7s debut on Friday.
The Volcanoes, seeded as the lowest team in the tournament, bowed to 5th-ranked Kenya, 45-5, during the game that took place in Moscow, Russia.
"We stuck to our task there, the Philippines side made it difficult for us for the first three or four minutes,” said Kenya coach Mike Friday in the tournament’s official website.
The Philippines' Gaz Holgate scored one try.
The Volcanoes will next face powerhouse Samoa on Saturday morning and Zimbabwe in the afternoon.
The Filipinos need to place second in Pool C with a high point differential to advance into the Cup stage of the 24-team tournament.
