MANILA, Philippines -- Gilas Pilipinas and their sponsors have given fans a sneak peek of the official team kit that the Filipinos will wear at the FIBA World Cup in Spain.
The new jersey derives inspiration from the Philippine flag with the sun's silhouette embossed on the back.
It's also lighter, more breathable, and more durable.
"Sobrang excited ako, etong suot ko na, parang I feel like playing na, kasi ganon yong feeling namin na every time you wear a Pilipinas jersey, we're ready to go,” said LA Tenorio.
“Wearing Pilipinas jersey is more than enough for us to be inspired to play kasi alam namin na maraming Pilipinong nanonood sa amin, maraming Pilipinong sumusuporta sa amin."
Gilas members will start training on July 1 and they have a long list of tune-up matches and training camps abroad.
"Any kind of competition, any kind of tune up that we can get is very, very important and you know we have no time coming and playing as a team especially with Andre Blatche, so anytime we can get to help prepare with the team that’s most welcome," said Gilas coach Chot Reyes.
At the end of July, Gilas will be in Miami in Florida to train with naturalized NBA player Blatche of the Brooklyn Nets.
“He has the skills that I think compliment the things we want to do, he has the skillset to play with JuneMar Fajardo, that's the important thing,” said Reyes.
“His visit here was just to pay a courtesy call to Mr. MVP (Manny Pangilinan) and to the Senate and Congress and get a chance to meet his teammates, no practice."
