SOUTHAMPTON, UK - A German-Pinay taekwondo fighter has been picked by the British national team for an upcoming youth tournament.

Jeamy Navarro-Schrank is among a squad of eight girls and four boys chosen for the inaugural World Taekwondo Federation Cadet World Championships being held in Baku, Azerbaijan from July 24-27.

The 14-year-old from Southampton will fight on July 25 in the female Lightweight division - under 44kgs.

Jeamy's selection follows a start to the year where she bagged a gold medal at the Spanish Open, gold at the Keumgang Open in Belgium, a quarter-final berth at the US Open, and a last-16 appearance at the Austria Open.

On being chosen, the teenager told ABS-CBN Europe: "I am delighted to be part of the first ever Cadet World Championships. It will be a valuable experience for my future development."

This is the second time Jeamy will represent the British team after last year's outing at the European Championships in Romania, where she made it to the last-16.

In the run-up to the Cadet World Championships, Jeamy is training every weekend in Manchester with the rest of the national team.

The competition, designed for 12 to 14 year olds, is a single elimination tournament.
