MANILA, Philippines - Six-time world bowling champion and bowling Hall of Famer Paeng Nepomuceno won the 40th Philippine International Open 37 years after he first won it in 1974.
Nepomuceno, 54, now holds the record for being the youngest and oldest champion of the tournament.
The 8-time Philippine Open champion defeated international bowling stars in Malate, Manila on Sunday (June 25).
Nepomuceno said the victory is special for him since it shows that he can still be competitive at his age.
"It's something special na at this age kaya pa, competitive pa din," he said. "Mahirap manalo dahil madaming magagaling sa international circuit ngayon. So, I just did my best at buti nanalo."
Nepomuceno dedicated his victory to his late father and coach.
"Hinasa niya ako na in order to become good, mas dapat malakas ka mentally and emotionally."
Nepomuceno advised athletes, regardless of their sport, that aside from honing their skills, they should also maintain not just physical but also mental discipline. - report from TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News
