Marcos Maidana is not one to refuse a big fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, according to the Argentine boxer’s adviser.

Sebastian Contursi said in Ryan Maquinana’s report to Boxing Scene that he was surprised to hear that Pacquiao was included in the list potential opponents for Maidana.

“I was surprised lately because I heard Manny Pacquiao’s name in the mix with the situation between Golden Boy and Top Rank, but that’s something I need to discuss with Al Haymon,” Contursi said.

Maidana, who is promoted by Golden Boy, is seeking a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr. after losing the WBA welterweight belt to the undefeated American last May.

But if he doesn’t get the rematch, Contursi said Pacquiao will be a welcome alternative.

“When you talk about names like Pacquiao, who would say no?” Contursi said.

Pacquiao recently reclaimed the WBO welterweight title by beating Timothy Bradley Jr. in a lopsided decision last April. He is scheduled to fight again in Macau on November 23.

The boxing styles of Pacquiao and Maidana are expected to make an exciting fight as the Argentine will probably brawl his way against the Filipino’s improved boxing style.

The fight could also set a coaching rematch between their trainers Freddie Roach and Robert Garcia, who have been at odds since Garcia’s fighters mocked Roach’s Parkinson’s disease years ago.
