MANILA, Philippines – Talk 'N Text's heady guard Jayson Castro is the PBA's Player of the Week for the period of June 18-25 after leading the Tropang Texters to back-to-back victories in the PBA Governors Cup.
According to PBA.ph, Castro averaged 20.5 points and 3.5 assists off the bench in the Texters’ wins over the Barako Bull and Barangay Ginebra Kings last week.
He had 23 points in TNT’s 109-89 victory over the Barako Bull, and 18 points in their 113-111 win over Ginebra.
Four of Castro’s points against Ginebra came in a crucial stretch when the Kings came as close as one point, 108-109.
Making Castro's achievement more impressive is the fact that he is coming off ankle surgery, which caused him to miss the Texters' first four games of the conference.
"He's playing without the pain that's hampered him the last three conferences and it shows," said Talk 'N Text head coach Chot Reyes. "Obviously, his return has played a big part in our resurgence."
Talk 'N Text now has a 4-3 record, good for third place in the league.
